Early Appraisals and Detailed Schemes for Geothermal Heat

Geothermal Heat is available anywhere on earth however for best results a regional and detailed work needs to be done to improve the heat recovery schemes.

United Geothermal will work with you from the onset with a regional look and then focus on your specific lands/requirements.

Considerable geological knowledge and experience with 3D modelling capabilities will provide the early framework. These geomodels provide the modern digital framework to work into the details all the way to well placements accurately and efficiently.

Closed-Loop Concept

The radiator concept of heat recovery from pipes through circulation and conduction of hot fluids/heat in the ground is the concept we are working with. At the surface, through circulation, heat is transferred to a heat exchanger.  At no point in this scheme, the circulating fluid/water is exposed to the formation rock or fluids. This simple process ensures that no precipitation will clog up the tubings pre-maturely for a trouble free operation.

Due to radiation in the earth core, there is a re-generation of heat in a span of 30-50 years.  Wells need to be placed in the thermally conductive formations in the best naturally heated rock. The regeneration of heat through radiation is a bonus.

Other situations in highly fractured or permeable formations can lead into additional schemes with a water injector and a heat/water producer for heat recovery.  In this case additional recovery could be available as new warm/hot fluids move into the producer.

Designed for purpose

Client’s potential heat requirements for 30-50 years of heat/electricity will lead us to early designs and simulation. In consultation with client teams, potential existing and future sights could be considered for maximizing the benefits and reducing the footprint of the projects to plan for expansions.

In Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) and other North American sites, United Geothermal uses previously drilled information from Oil & Gas wells to get a fast start to the mapping and modelling. The benefit is that less exploratory/pilot wells may be required.
